Director's Message

Dear Friends,

Looking back on the thirteen years of Peace building, Healing and Reconciliation Programme (PHARP), we celebrate God’s faithfulness. We started in pain and struggles during the Rwanda genocide of 1994 when remnants, refugees and neighbors were undergoing critical traumatic events. Some were crying because of the mass slaughters of their loved ones, destroyed properties and homelessness. While we have not forgotten those difficult times, we are grateful for the restoration of peace due to support from the peace builders around the world.

There is a great need for peace building, healing and reconciliation activities in Africa. We need to move to a process where we affirm each other, promise to work with one another to eliminate political models that  to lead to conflicts.

We seek your prayers for the years ahead as we plan to expand PHARP’s activities in the Horn and western regions of Africa. The recent peace agreement between the Sudan Government and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) needs to be nurtured for lasting results. So trainings on trauma healing, conflict resolution, peace education and community development are needed in those areas, in order to have a common understanding and a lasting peace.

I am convinced that experiences learned from the Great Lakes Region can be helpful in Sudan as  well as in other war-torn countries in the rest of Africa. PHARP is well placed to contribute to the fostering of peace and  societal development. Up to date, our partners have been faithful in their promises. Their prayers and support are irreproachable. We extend our sincere gratitude to you all.

Peace and equitable development will require not only effective institutions, but also greater  understanding and respect for differences within and across national boundaries. If we cannot learn   to accommodate each other respectfully, we could destroy each other at such a rate that humanity will have little to cherish.

May you be encouraged to be one of the peacemakers and agents of   transformation in this world full of anger, violence, confusion, and even misunderstanding, which   leads to serious conflicts".

Yours in His Service
