Dear Friends,
When we look back at the 16 years that Peacebuilding, Healing and Reconciliation Programme (PHARP) has been in existence, we can’t boast, only be thankful to the Lord’s goodness. We started in the midst of pain, struggles and lack of hope during the Rwanda genocide in 1994. This was at a time when the Rwandese community was facing critical traumatic events; people were mourning brutal killings of their loved ones, others became Internally Displaced Persons (IDP’s), refugees in neighboring countries, millions of properties were destroyed while international bodies fled from the country world.
In the midst of these gruelsome experiences, we are appreciative of the peace that has been restored due to the support from local and international peace building bodies.
Similarly, Kenya went into elections in December 2007 but they resulted into violence which saw many Kenyans loose their lives, properties worth of millions destroyed, relationships were destroyed and this undermined international confidence in Kenya and her people. The country is slowly recovering from the dark moment and the Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commission has long been established to look into the post-election violence as it seeks to unite Kenyans for healing and reconciliation. |
